Engraving of Mrs. Lillie Hayes Waugh of Washington, CT. Late Missionary to India. Hair pulled back, shawl. Engraved for the Ladies Repository. The Ladies' Repository was a monthly periodical devoted to literature, art, and religion, published in the 19th century, from January 1841 to December 1876, with The National Repository picking up where it left off (starting again with volume I, number 1).

2015.27.1 - Sampler
Sampler made by Amaryllis Gunn [later Amarylis (Gunn) Canfield], the sister of Frederick Gunn, on cotton fabric using silk thread. Two alphabets are at the top followed by a row of numbers, then "Amaryllis Gunn Samp/wrought by her in the sum/mer of 1821 Agt 9 years", then in a blue outlined box center bottom " Mrs. E. Moseley/Instructress" and at the bottom "Washington." There are flowers on either side of the box.

Inside - one ink bottle, two silver ink bottle tops, assorted pens, pocket compass, sketchbook, small handpainted book illustrating religious gowns, 2 postcards from Christ Church, New Orleans, 2 booklets written by N.S. Wheaton, D.D. dated 1834 & 1851; one pamphlet from the same church, one handmade prayer book and cover( well worn ).

Boyhood home of Senator Orville Platt, located at 98 Wykeham Road in Washington, Connecticut. The Platts were abolitionists and this house is thought to have been a stop for slaves on the Underground Railroad. This house was once the home of Mr. Miles Aspinwall and his sister, Miss Sarah Aspinwall. More recently it was part of the Wykeham Rise School.
