Piece of the famous Connecticut Charter Oak Tree in Hartford, CT that fell down in a windstorm in 1856. The name "Charter Oak" stems from the local legend in which a cavity within the tree was used in late 1687 as a hiding place for the 1662 Charter of the Colony of Connecticut that was being revoked by the King of England. The Charter Oak Tree became a symbol of American independence.
