The trunk was hand planed, possibly on the Hollister Homestead on Nettleton Hollow Rd, Washington, CT.

Small wooden trunk covered in embossed black leather with 2 brass tack heart designs on the front. Side leather handles (one missing). Leather overlap on edge of lid. Metal keyhole lock latch with protective leather flap. Lid has rounded corners and a paper label secured with four tacks. Inside was lined with white paper. There is a New York Times from 1938 in the bottom. Initial scraped on lid: "J. J. R."
