Description |
Jane Rouillion Boyer's World War Two WWII era Civil Defense identification card. The card is blue and on one side has a small 1.5" x 1.75" black and white portrait of Jane and her left thumbprint, as well as her signature on the left side. The reverse side has "Office of Civil Defense, State of Connecticut. This certifies that Jane D. Rouillion, Washington, Conn., Has been enrolled as a member of the Civil Defense Force, G. O. C.," and is signed by William Herbert (?), the director. Jane writes in the description, "Late 1940's or early 50's I used to spot planes off East Street in the field near Calhoun St. Hill. You used a crank telephone to call New Milford to report planes. I don't think I ever saw an actual plane, but a number of times I would be about to call because I heard a noise... a plane? and then the "plane" would switch gears as it went up Rte 47!" |
