Description |
Dr. Remus Fowler's (Washington's town doctor) medicine chest. Wooden box with handle on top lid. Inside are two compartments contains some glass vials. One compartment would have held the vials/bottles and the other compartment would have held packets of dried herbs to make the right mix for various ailments. The box is well worn with most of the original finish gone The handle on top is leather attached using two screws on either end. The latch appears to be wrought iron and the piece that secured the latch is missing, but probably hung from a short chain to the right of the latch. Sides have dovetail joints. Bottom is held in place with finishing nails. Inside the lid is pasted a typed piece from October 1929 concerning the chest which was printed as a newspaper article. |
