Description |
Paper matchbox with matches enclosed from the Washington Match Co, Washington Depot, CT. The box is brown and constructed from one piece of sturdy paper. The top and side panels serve as the lid and lift up, exposing the interior. Sandlike material is adhered to the right side to serve as the strike panel for lighting matches. Printed in black on the top panel within a scrolled square: "The only PARLOR/ MATCH now made/ from which the HEADS/ will not FALL OFF on/ being LIGHTED, and/ which are not afect/ed by DAMPNESS./Parlors 300's". Printed in black on the front panel within a black border: The Best Parlor Match/ in this Market:/ made only by this/ Company." Printed in black within a black border on the left side: "Will Stand Good/ in the/ CLIMATE." Printed in black within a black border: "WASHINGTON/ Match Company,/ WASHINGTON,/Estab. 1874 CONN." Printed in black within a scroll border: "By REJECTING/ Slide Boxes we have/ done away with the/ CHIEF SOURCE of/ Danger in the use of/ MATCHES." Enclosed matches are wooden and round with a reddish/ brown balled head. The Washington Match Company was located on Titus Road in Washington Depot, CT. |
