Description |
African American composition child's doll, arms and legs loosely attached through the torso. The doll has a pink flowered dress with lace and ribbon and a velcro closure at the back. The back of the doll is marked: E. Goldberger. The doll was named "Nettie" by her owner, Ella Williams, after a black classmate of hers. See Ella's oral history interview (2001.30.1) for the full story: "One Christmas when I was in first or second grade I was given a colored doll. I liked that doll because there was a little colored girl who went to school with me. Her name was Nettie, so I named my doll Nettie after her." - Ella Williams 10/25/2001 |
