Wooden nameplate (A) with words "Platt". Includes envelope (B) it was sent to Mrs. Platt in, with her notes about where it was to go (first to his granddaughter, and then after her death Mrs. Platt directed it to go to the "Platt Memorial Museum" of the Gunn Memorial Library. Also includes note on the envelope from Ransdell to Mrs. Platt giving it to her. Transcription of Envelope: Top (ink inscription): "To Margery Platt. Granddaughter of Mr. Platt whose nameplate from the desk and locker used so long by him in the Senate chamber with a note from the Sargent at Arms". Bottom (pencil inscription): "Margery Platt died April 13, 1921. The enclosed to be placed in Platt Memorial Museum, which is a part of the Gunn Memorial Library -J.P.P." (Jeannie Penniman Platt was the widow of Senator Orville Platt & served on the Gunn Museum's first Museum Committee and was deeply involved in curatorial work with the collection). |
