  3. 2015.27.1 - Sampler

    Sampler made by Amaryllis Gunn [later Amarylis (Gunn) Canfield], the sister of Frederick Gunn, on cotton fabric using silk thread. Two alphabets are at the top followed by a row of numbers, then "Amaryllis Gunn Samp/wrought by her in the sum/mer of 1821 Agt 9 years", then in a blue outlined box center bottom " Mrs. E. Moseley/Instructress" and at the bottom "Washington." There are flowers on either side of the box.

    Sampler made by Abigail Irene (Brinsmade) Gunn when she was a child. Stitching reads: "Abigail I. Brinsmade Sampler wrought when 8 years of age". "Seek virtues path and when you find the way pursue with firmness and disdain to stray".

    Linen sampler embroidered by Abigail Farrand with her name, the alphabet and numbers in thread colors of gold, tan, black, dark green and brown. Unfinished lower edge pattern. Not dated. This sampler was likely made by Abigail Esther (Farrand) Hamilton (1800-1875) who attended the Litchfield Female Academy in 1818, was admitted to the church in New Preston in 1821 and married by the Rev. Boardman to William J. Hamilton of New Preston in 1829,...

    Linen sampler embroidered by Mary Wakeman (Gold) Brinsmade when she was a child. Letters A through Z of the alphabet are embroidered with black thread in upper case on the top section. The letters "M W G" are stitched in the center with numers 1 through 9. The alphabet is shown in lower case with gold thread on the lower section.
