Linen sampler embroidered by Abigail Farrand with her name, the alphabet and numbers in thread colors of gold, tan, black, dark green and brown. Unfinished lower edge pattern. Not dated. This sampler was likely made by Abigail Esther (Farrand) Hamilton (1800-1875) who attended the Litchfield Female Academy in 1818, was admitted to the church in New Preston in 1821 and married by the Rev. Boardman to William J. Hamilton of New Preston in 1829, rather than by Abigail (Farrand) Brinsmade (1757-1805). |
