Description |
Painted poster by John Fulton Folinsbee (his initials at the bottom, right) advertising a benefit for the Red Cross. Canvas is nailed to stretcher bars, unframed. The poster has an eagle flying against clouds and a blue sky and a large red cross at the bottom, right, as well as "Tableaux/Plays" Hall on the Green" "Sat. 8:15 P. M." During the day August 15, 1918 there was a bazaar on the Green with many booths selling a variety of items, an auction, followed by a dinner in the church parlors, culminating with plays and tableaux in the Washington Club Hall as advertised in the poster. All benefited the World War One WWI relief work of the Washington Red Cross, raising over $2,500. Label (rear side) text: August 15, 1918 - Red Cross Fund-raiser on the Green.
