Description |
Wooden pulley wheel made of layers of wooden pieces approximately 1" wide & 6 1/2" long; connected through middle with cross pieces of wood with hole for shaft. Shaft was connected to drive wheel and the pulley would have had a flat leather or fiber belt. A mill would have had several sizes of pulley wheels depending on job to be done. Found in donor's house at 74 River Road in Washington, Connecticut. Her house is right on the Shepaug River and many mills were located in this area. This pulley is quite large as befits a mill on the river rather than a stream. |
